Community-Based Academic Internship Program

Why Try a Community-Based Internship-

CURRENT LIST OF INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES (FALL 2017)

APPLICATION PROCESS

LEARN MORE

The Center for Community Engaged Learning & Research (CELR Center) is pleased to offer Community-Based Academic Internship opportunities for students. These internships are designed for students who are interested in further developing their skills or deepening their knowledge — while also helping one of our partners address an important public or social issue.

Center staff developed these opportunities with a number of non-profit organizations and government agencies in the Trenton area, most of which the Center has been working with for years. We are confident that these positions provide meaningful learning and resume-building experiences for TCNJ students.

In this listing you will find positions that are relevant to an array of majors, including but not limited to Sociology, Criminology, Journalism, Visual Arts, Marketing, Economics, Education, Communications, Political Science, Psychology, and many more. These positions will provide help to nearly thirty different organizations.

This initiative is created with the intention of promoting High Impact Learning Practices. Researchers have shown that Community Engaged Learning has a positive impact on student outcomes — internships do as well. We believe that when you combine the two, the impact will be even more significant.

In addition to offering these opportunities, we will work to help enhance the student internship experience as well. In consultation with the Career Center, CELR Center staff follow best practices and provide support throughout the semester. This includes offering an initial orientation for interns, providing training sessions, and allowing for regular “check-ins” with interns as well as staff at the community partner site.

If you are interested in one or more of these positions, please discuss the opportunity with your academic advisor and/or departmental internship coordinator. Then, submit a resume and cover letter (identify the internship(s) you are interested in) to Adams Sibley, CELR Center Program Specialist, at sibleya@tcnj.edu. You may also call 609-771-2754 or visit Adams in Forcina Hall (Forcina 326) to schedule an advising session or find out more about our partner organizations.

We look forward to hearing from you!
